BOSTON – The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) is reminding drivers of the planned overnight closure of the Sumner and Callahan tunnels to occur beginning at 12 AM on August 11.
Crews will be performing planned construction work inside the tunnels, which requires the closure of both tunnels to all traffic. During this time, the inside of the tunnel and surrounding areas may appear dark when crews turn off the power during the construction work.
The tunnel will reopen no later than 4 AM. Drivers are urged to follow posted detour routes.
At 9 PM on August 11, two lanes of the Ted Williams Tunnel eastbound will close. At 10 PM, two lanes of the westbound side of the tunnel will close. At the 12 AM, the tunnel will fully close to all traffic. The tunnel will reopen at 4 AM.
Drivers are urged to detour through the Sumner/Callahan Tunnel.
The tunnel closures are scheduled for separate times in order to minimize impact on drivers.
